In PoEII, due to the open-world nature not tying back into the main plot in certain ways, you get a mixed message. Not the best third-act plot dump, but at least our char felt like he was tied into the main plot entirely and had to solve the mystery of the Gods and the Leaden Key. In PoEI, we were not only prepped ahead of time on the nature of souls with Teir Nowneth at first, Iovara filled in a personal connection we had with Thaos. When you are created by a society, you only know what they knew and how they knew it. Third, when Aether is part of your family, you kind of know it all: you can ask him. Therefore instead of creating ideas, the gods of PoE are products of ideas and the desire of fixing certain cultural norms, such as the Woedica-Skaen game to maintain class hierarchy in societies. However, gods in PoE were created from a society, attending to the values that this society considered to be eternal and important (and they forgot to include love!). Canonically, this means that society is shaped by the gods: There could be not love without Aphrodite, nor lightning without Zeus. Second, classical gods are important concepts for the world or society. In PoE1 one of such rules was the Wheel, for example. In contrast, the gods in PoE were created by the mortals (much like most, if not all, real world gods) into an already existing world with already existing rules, some of which they could not modify. That's a fair answer, although I somewhat disagree and here's why.įirst, gods like Zeus or Odin are either creators of their universe or direct descendants of those creators (Odin's grandfather, Búri, kind of existed already in the world, and Zeus' great grandfather Aether appeared from Chaos).
